Featuring Professional Artist Agust Roestamadji and Amateur Artist Richard Spence Show February 4th through 25th -- Reception: Saturday February 4th 1-4 PM Agust Roestamadji was born and raised in East Java, Indonesia. Since early childhood Agust has had the passion for drawing fig-ures and shapes. His father noticed his talent at seven years old. He encouraged Agust to study landscape painting under an Indo-nesian Master Oil Artist as well as the philosophy behind painting. He learned to use his senses as he painted to capture the es-sence of the scene. Agust has won numerous awards in many local exhibitions includ-ing the Art Association of Randolph County, the Best Darke County Subject Award at the Great Darke County Fair as well as several prestigious awards from the Greenville Art Guild, the Best Emerging Artist, the Dave Hill Memorial Award and Best of Show 2008. Several of his paintings have also been displayed at the Richmond Art Museum. Agust’s passion is to capture and paint the beauty of light in Darke County on canvas and to present them to his audience in order to evoke emotion and appreciation of the beauty of local scenery in our own local area. Richard Spence was Born and raised in Eaton, Ohio. His paint-ings are impressionistic abstractions of feelings that arise through the creative process. He looks to Monet’s impressionist works of color and brilliant balance, yet he becomes mesmerized by Kand-insky's pure abstractionism. Kandinsky once said “Color is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, and the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul.” Richard attempts this with each piece he creates. Richard considers himself a versatile abstract artist working and experimenting with various mediums. His most widely used me-dium is acrylic, and is currently working with wood, glass and metal sculpting. His subjects are varied and have specific per-sonal meaning. Presently Richard is a senior at Indiana University East, attending the Fines Arts program. After graduation he is planning on continuing his Fine Arts education and hopes to pur-sue an MFA. |
