Sacred Spaces - September 2011

posted Jul 15, 2011 11:37 AM by Erin Abney   [ updated Aug 3, 2011 11:38 AM ]
Public Reception: September 24th, 2-4pm
Entry Form - Deadline August 31st, No Fee to Enter!

The Preble County Art Association is announcing a call for entries for the theme show, Sacred Spaces at the Preble Fine Arts Center during the month of September.  Taken literally, most of us think of Sacred Spaces as public places of worship such as churches, mosques or temples.  Indeed, the first definition of sacred in Webster’s dictionary is “set apart for the service or worship of deity”.    But Sacred Spaces can also be private, metaphorical and non-religious in nature.  We all have places that are important to our well-being, places where our minds, souls and spirits find comfort.   Whether it is an altar or a landscape, shared by a community or known only to ourselves, that which defines a Sacred Space is unique to each individual and open to interpretation.

This show is open to both professional and non-professional artists 18 years of age and older.    There is NO ENTRY FEE.  Entry deadline is August 31, 2011.  Drop off date is September 2, from 1-5 pm.  Artwork must be related your interpretation of the theme Sacred Spaces in some way - be creative and show us how you see things! Limit three entries per person.  Art may be done in any medium except video or installation and must not have been shown at any previous PCAA show.  Wall-hung pieces must be ready to hang securely and are limited to 90” each direction.  3D works must be able to stand on their own. All work must be original in concept, design and execution.  Any two dimensional work must prepared appropriately for hanging, no sawtooth hangers accepted, wire hung is preferred.

One Best of Show will be awarded based on viewer vote to be announced at the September 24th (2 to 4pm) public reception. The PCAA reserves the right to select works for the show.  Art owners assume responsibility for insuring their submitted works.  All reasonable care in handling works submitted for the show is exercised by the PCAA and its members but the organization and its members are not liable for any loss or damage.  We encourage participants to offer their submitted works for sale but it is not required.  The Preble County Art Association retains a 25% commission on all sales.   Works left at the Center for more than 15 days after the show become property of the Preble County Art Association.  If you wish to participate but cannot make it to artwork pickup or drop-off please call or email us to make other arrangements. All money raised through this exhibit supports the Preble County Fine Arts Center Facility and its programming.

Sacred Spaces will be on exhibit at the Preble Fine Arts Center from September 6 to 30.  A public reception will be held at the Arts Center on September 24 from 2 to 4 pm.  For an entry form and can be downloaded here, please return it to PCAA, 601 Hillcrest Drive, Eaton, Ohio 45320.
